“Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the goal of healthcare programs has been to provide care to every member of the population and to make maximum use of limited health-care personnel, equipment, and financial resources. The emphasis has been on preventive rather than curative medicine on the premise that preventive medicine is “active” while curative medicine is “passive”. The public health system is overseen by the Ministry of Health and the modernization of the system is studied internationally.”
Since they have health care for “all” their people, they will not have problems like we are having.

I don’t know what the first answerer was smoking but that’s not anywhere near the case.
The reality is China’s healthcare system is basically exactly the same as the US. So they already deal with such issues. The poor (800 million people) cannot afford insurance, while the middle class generally don’t buy it as it’s excessive in price. There are hospitals in Shanghai and Beijing that are as expensive as in the US.
It leaves many people to suffer who don’t have the money to go to a good doctor.

China used to provide universal health care for all its citizens. Then they decided to try a market-based system like the U.S., but found they had many of the same problems we have in terms of soaring costs and lack of access. They are now planning to switch back to government-funded universal health care in 2011.

It is a communist nation, which means health care is a public service.
