Why wont my dogs fur grow back after surgery?

By Editor

Question: My dog had surgery about a year ago to remove a ruptured lipoma. The fur grew back over the incision sight, but not in the area that they shaved.

He’s a 14 year old Golden Retriever and is on Thyroid meds. His Thyroid blood levels are in the proper range. Is there anything else that could cause this?

Thanks!!!

Ask your your vet it should be growing back unless he is itching it or something

It should have grown back but I would guess that his thyroid problem has something to do with it. There isn’t any other reason for the hair they clipped off with electric clippers not to grow back. If it never grows back, it isn’t anything that will hurt the dog, it just will look odd.
