When can I start taking birth control after a non surgical abortion?

By Editor

Question: I am having a non surgical abortion this upcoming friday. 1 pill to stop the development of the embryo on friday and 2 suppositories next weekend to expel the fetus.

I don’t want any pro-life posts. This isn’t a question of SHOULD I get the abortion, the decision has been made. This is a question of when I am able to start my birth control regiment again after the abortion.

your Dr will tell you when to continue your birth Control hun were not Dr’s we can’t tell you anything about that

The nurse will let you know, but you should start right away. Since you don’t want kids now consider a long term solution like Implanon or Mirena. You can’t screw up those birth controls and you’ll have years without accidental pregnancy.

That following Sunday.

I understand your not wanting judgement, no one here knows your circumstances & no one here walks a day in your shoes. I too have had the non-surgical abortion, although I consider it a mistake now, at the time it seemed the only option for a young, self absorbed little girl (not saying that is you!). Basically, once you stop bleeding and everything has expelled (you’re basically inducing a miscarriage, yes it’s gross but deal). So, roughly one week after the pills have been inserted. You should really start in a sunday, it’s the easiest to remember. But ask the nurses at the clinic, they’re very helpful. However, you can be really, really fertile after an abortion so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use any & all forms of birth control out there as to not have to do this again anytime soon…good luck hun & I hope for the best for you!

the doctor will tell you. if they don’t, then call up and ask. i would assume it would be safe to start birth control after your body has extracted all of the pregnancy tissues. be sure to go to the follow-up appointment afterwards to make sure.

Why??? i am unable to have children…what a blessing you have. I am not judging…i am asking. what about the pain that baby will have when you have that abortion?

I recommend Mirena. If you go to their website, click on patient information link and that will open a pdf page with all of the information you should need to determine if it is right for you. It is good for 5 yrs and some insurance companies will cover the entire cost. The procedure is quick and just a little bit of cramping for the first day but nothing serious. Also, there is virtually no medication.
