What’s the best way to search for quality, low-cost medical care outside of the USA?
By
Question: There are dozens of agencies that provide all-inclusive medical tourisim packages to Asia and South America, and I’m sure they’re great for people who like to go about it that way. However, I’m interested in saving money by using my frequent flyer miles, searching for cheap accomodations, staying with friends, etc. Does anyone know how I might best look for good doctors and hospitals overseas, minus the luxury hotels, first class flights, etc? Specifically, I need some testing procedures done, like a bone scan and and MRI, which would cost me, even with my insurance, well over $3000 out-of-pocket in this country. If I’m going to run up that kind of debt, I want a full-on adventure out of it. Maybe you can help? Thanks!

I just had an MRI done on my shoulder for about USD 170 in Manila. You can probably find a nice hotel for USD 30 – 50 per night here. Doctors are good, equipment is new, everyone speaks english. It’s worth the flight.

You do not have to a package. Here is a website to a hospital in Bangkok. You can deal with them directly.
You can find a nice hotel in Bangkok for $15 to $20 dollars a night. http://www.bumrungrad.com/
