What kind of medicals jobs out there do NOT require medical school?

By Editor

Question: I’m realllllly interested in the field of medicine, but i can’t see myself surviving actual medical school, and paying off the debt of it. so my question is, how can i be in the medical field without having to go through the medical school part? can i do anything with just a pre-med? specifically im very interested in pedicatrics, especially pediatric oncology.

i’ve heard about being a physicians assistant, what kind of school does that require?

thanks to any answers!

Without medical training you may get a receptionist job.

You could become a phlebotomist or lab technician. Both require some schooling/specialized training but not med school. You could also become a pharmacy tech.

You can do an allied health field like respiratory therapist. These require two years of school and nothing harder than college algebra. You can make 100K+, so max out your loans because you can pay them back soon! Your local community college may offer an AH program, so call and ask.

No you can’t do much of anything with a Pre-Med degree. PA school requires a bachelors degree and is very intense. check out http://www.aapa.org and http://www.physicianassistantforum.com

A physician’s assistant is a great path to go. You also consider becoming a nurse. After a few years of working and piling together finances, if you really feel like you enjoy what you do and are up to the task, you may apply for medical school to get an MD. Don’t feel you are out of options so soon!
