what is the policy for medicaid eye care benefits in Florida?

By Editor

Question: searched online for answers but no luck. what eye care benefits are available to people who have “medicaid” coverage (Florida)? If the individual is entitled to an eye exam and needs glasses, are they required to get glasses from the same location that did the eye exam? I received information from a local “eye care facility” that stated, “as of Jan 01,2009 they will no longer be able to fill eyeglass rx’s for Medicaid patients who had an eye exam outside of their practice.” Is this an “elective” choice or is that a medicaid “policy”? It makes sense but i would like to know either way…

That rule probably applies to that business by choice. Medicaid pays for 1 eye exam per year. $40 towards glasses of your choice or you can pick from the available covered Medicaid glasses…they are hideous. Your best bet is to take the $40 towards glasses of your own choosing.
