What is the difference between public health care and public defenders?

Question: Why don’t republicans argue that paying taxes out for legal representation is socialist but that public health care is?

Public defenders are by order of the the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has ruled that prisoners get free health care, but haven’t ruled the government must give universal health care to everyone.
