Family practice is a doctor who sees adults, children and pregnant women – their training is very broad and based mostly in the clinic setting.
Internal Medicine is a doctor who sees only adults, and practices either in or out of the hospital. They usually have more training with more severe, inpatient illnesses, but are also able to do clinic.
General Practice can be one or the other.
Any of the doctors in these fields will do a very good job with your husband’s headaches – but if you’re looking to find a doctor who will treat him for the next decade or so, I recommend internal medicine, since they tend to be more up to date on issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. (I admit to being biased as I myself practice in internal medicine)
