What is the best anxiety medication for me to take before surgery.?
By
Question: I have a HUGE fear of anesthesia and needles (I’ll have seizures) and I’m pretty sure the doctor will prescribe Valium to calm me down before my upcoming surgery. Honestly, I want to be blacked out before the car ride there, and not remember anything until the day after the surgery. Does anyone else have this much anxiety? Ive taken zanax before, and still had a seizure after getting a shot. Any suggestions?
what about Klonopin?

if you’ve taken xanex before then Klonopin will probably not help you much. I’ts much weaker than xanex. You’re best option is to tell your doctor how scared you are and how you would like to take something even before the car ride and he can prescribe you something to take. Tell the doc xanex didn’t work so he has an idea of how bad the anxiety is. Don’t take anything your doctor doesn’t know about beforehand, I hope that’s obvious. As someone with a major anxiety disorder Valium is probably your best option. Adavan works well, but it only works better than xanex when it is given intravenously(at least for me) which requires you to get a shot. Xanex is pretty much the best anxiety medication next to Valium so if it didn’t work for you, then you might as well go for the Valium.
PS….I got prescribed valium for airplane rides….works fabulously.

Check with the surgeon and see if Enderal might be a solution. It reduces anxiety. For example, some rock stars take Enderal because they have stage fright.
