What is a small town outside of Seatle, but within 30 minutes away from Union Bay?

Question: I am looking to move to Union Bay for medical school in a few years and i do not want to live in the city. Is there any small towns that are close?

There really aren’t any small towns within 30 minutes of Seattle. It’s pretty much one big urban/suburban sprawl for 20+ miles in every direction.
Seattle and the surrounding suburbs are made of up many communities and some have more of a “small town” feel than others.
Some areas that are about 30 minutes away via public transportation that you might want to take a look at include: Wedgwood, Lake City (within the city limits), Bothell and Edmonds. These are all toward the north. Issaquah to the east of Seattle is also a possibility.
There may be some to the south as well, but I’m not as familiar with those areas.

Other things to keep in mind as you choose where to settle will be parking costs or bus lines – the hospitals on Union Bay are the UW Medical Center and Children’s, and both have pay parking garages.
Other options that could work include the Sandpoint area of Seattle and Lake Forest Park. I would avoid anything east of Seattle as that would involve driving over one of the two bridges. Both are free now, but they are planning to add tolls to the 520 bridge (most convenient to the UW/Union Bay area), so there will either be additional cost for that or additional time for the extra distance and traffic on I90.
If you are willing to stretch the commute to an hour or so, then you can look at small towns like Snohomish, Carnation, Snoqualmie, Woodinville and Duval.

I would suggest, Lake city, Edmonds, Shoreline, bothell and even as far north as Everett. There is bus service from these areas. The further north you go the less expensive. I know of lots of people who attend the U but live in the Everett area. Much more affordable.
