What happens to people’s debt to hospitals once Health Care is passed?

By Editor

Question: Hypothetically: If I go and have my gall bladder removed, and don’t have health insurance, I will have to pay the bill. But will this debt be forgiven now that it’ll be payed for?

Fema camps.

They still owe it.

The bill is not retroactive. Even if passed by the Senate and signed by Obama, it won’t take effect until sometime in 2012 or 2013, from what I’ve read.

Just pay your freakin bill. If you don’t want to pay, then just keep your gallbladder.

No…wow.

The legislation has not yet passed nor has Obama signed the final Bill(s).
If you don’t have insurance and don’t have the money, file a bankruptcy after you undergo the operation. Otherwise, most states have Charity Care, don’t they?

the government nor any other conglamorate/business/etc. are required to pay for any services retroactively unless there is written authorization.

The debt will not be forgiven. Hospitals never do collect on 30% of what they are owed. So, of course, they charge 30% more right off the top. If everyone has insurance they will receive more of the money they are owed, thus causing the prices to go down, thus insurance premiums will go down.

The bill will not go into effect until 2012 or 2013. If you have any medical bills now, you will be responsible for them. If wouldn’t trust the govt to go back and pay for them.

If the reforms pass, you will have to have insurance or get fined. And if you do not, then the same thing happens, in that you get charged, and you will also get fined.
