What happens if you are on Family Planning Medicaid and you get pregnant?
ByQuestion: I am on Family Planning Medicaid and I just found out that I am pregnant and my daughter is on full medicaid. Will my medicaid automatically swap over to pregnancy medicaid or do I have to reapply? Just wondering, I have my appointment on the 22nd and I want to know what to expect. Please only answer if you have experience with this or some knowledge about it. I am not looking for advice, just solid information. Thank you!

ask your public aid office.
usually they will get the help you need.

In my experience you have to have proof that you are pregnant. They will ask for a proof of pregnancy from your doctors office and then they will switch you over as needed. You should be covered with full medicaid until 2 months after you have your baby and then you will have to reapply again. At that time they will determine what form to put you under again.

If you are on family planning medicaid, and find out you are pregnant, you will basically re-apply. Just make sure you have the paper that confirms that you are pregnant and your due date. Income , things like that, and you should know if they approve it within a couple of days , by mail, I’m not sure where u live, but in SC you have to make over 3,000-4,000 a month to not get approved. also depends on your family size . Hope this helps!

In the state of SC, you have to go in and apply for medicaid like you would have regularly when you were pregnant with your first. The qualifications (income, ect) for the family planning medicaid and the pregnancy coverage medicaid are different, so they will require you go through the application process to get approved. Once you’re approved, you’ll still keep the same card and number that you had before … it’ll just be updated in the system. Usually, coverage will back date to the first of the month that you apply in… So if you were approved on the 22nd, your medicaid will pay for bills from the 1st onward.
Congragulations and good luck!

Call and give your case worker a heads up ahead of time and call your medicaid also. Then get a proof of pregnancy from your doctor to mail in after your first visit. This from NJ, MI, IN experience, but may vary in other states. Actually, NJ you don’t have case workers, so you only contact Medicaid.
