Spinal Surgery!?

By Editor

Question: I’m only 23 and having spinal surgery on Wednesday. They are going to cut out part of a disc that ruptured when I feel down the stairs. They are going to go in through my back. I’m very nervous because I’ve never had surgery before. Has anyone gone through this yet? Is it a breeze and I’m just freaking out over nothing? I do tend to worry a lot.

I have never gone through a spinal surgery specifically, but i know how you are feeling. Just try and relax! You are just freaking yourself out. Try and keep busy from now until Wednesday so you aren’t spending all your time worrying. Spend time outside, read, listen to music, cook, scrapbook-just keep busy! And remember, the doctors all know what they are doing and im sure they have performed surgeries many times, and will take good care of you. Everything will turn out fine :)

Take care and i wish you a speedy recovery!

I’ve had the same surgery twice! Two years apart on different discs. No it is not easy, but not as bad as the pain you are going through now. Follow your doctors post-op instructions, eat light (as it is easy to gain weight while recovering) and you will be fine. I hope you have family support because you will need their assistance the first few weeks. Good luck and don’t worry!

My brother when he was 13 had to have a rod fused from the edge of his skull to his tail bones (he has cerabal pausy) and when he had his done he was in the hospital 3 weeks, and he also almost died, i don’t want to scare you because his was more major than yours, but one of his lungs filled with blood and the other clapsed, good thing the doctor caught it, make sure you have an outstanding surgeon, and are in a good hospital.

good luck.
