ROCK&ROLL came from guys like this,,not ELVIS. I liked ELVIS but he wasn’t THE KING even he knew it. If not for WYNOONIE HARRIS there probably wouldn’t be an ELVIS
Nothing REPLACES the originals. Like
“GERALDO” RIVERS should’ve used his real name. The ORIGINALS are dying off
BO DIDDLEY,,JAMES,,WILSON,,,I hate to say this but probably BERRY a few years down the road. I was “on the air” in 1958 playing all that stuff. THEMOJOMANdotCOM
The flip side of this was the song in instrumental and was a great “slop” tune for dancing. The New Orleans sound of ACE Records was fantastic- many great artists and songs
Songs are just cooler when you’ve only ever heard a remake then all of the sudden you hear the original that really has that original sound and a good beat!
Piano work is really good on both….me thinks the sax is stronger on the Rivers version though. Driving my wife nuts listening to both of them again and again….Long live the New Orleans backbeat sound.

Hey, you got that straight, it was the original, and as with any older rock song, the original was by far, superior!

I prefer the less slick version (this one) over the Rivers cover. Thanks for commenting!

I grew up loving Johnny Rivers’ version, but this one is far superior.

Huey Smith’s version slightly more New Orleans type with rhythm & horns, bouncy beat great for “dirty dances”…..

This sounds very similar to Johnny Rivers’ famous cover version, though Johnny’s version is about a minute and a half longer.
