Its definitely worth if you are either
a) Into medicine and want to know more about the human body
or
b) Want to help people and cure the sick

If you’re only going for the paycheck, you will not be able to push through all the shit along the way and all of the grueling training you have to do to get there. It will kill your social life for something around a decade and thats not something to take lightly. Its an amazing career if you’re doing it for the right reasons.

You have to honestly question what your passion is in life. Do you enjoy the sciences, like to see the results of plastic surgeons work and would feel rewarded doing this work to others then the answer is yes.
As was previously stated in another answer the monetary rewards should not be a factor. money will follow with the level of your abilties and success. I have seen doctors at both ends of the spectrum. Those who put the patient and their practice first were successful and sought after.

College is the time to find out, before you make the investment in medical school. While you’re in college, volunteer or work in a hospital, and see whether you’re fascinated, bored or disgusted.

It requires a huge investment of time, money, and emotional stress to make it to the point where you have control over your life again, but for many of us, it was worth it. Not all doctors feel that way, though.

You are the only one that can make that decision. Specialty choice comes after med school, so don’t sweat that now. The real decision is whether or not to go for the MD degree.

(BTW, anesthesiology is a blast. I love my job. I did 3 C-sections today, for a total of 4 baby boys. Gotta love OB anesthesia!)
