Is constipation common after gallbladder surgery?
By
Question: I had my gallbladder removed on Thursday and have been constipated ever since. Is this common? What can/should I do? I took a couple natural laxatives but they didn’t do anything.

I think constipation is common after all surgeries. At least it has always been that way for me I think it has something to do with the anesthesia & / or antibiotics. Try shredded Wheat cereal. Not the frosted kind. Are you home and comfy ? That can make a big difference.

Sure, its common. I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago and I actually had the opposite reaction. Drink plenty of water and make sure you are eating a little bit of good fats.
It takes a couple of weeks to get back to normal after a surgery like this. I was impatient too. I wouldn’t load up on too many extra drugs to try to fix this, but relax and it will fix itself soon.
