By Editor

Question: they have been bent out so they’re toooo big for me now.

can i put them in boiling water so i can mold them back or should i just go to my eye care specialist and have them fixed?

be careful with *boiling* water…you may melt the frame! if you want to try this, hot tap water is probably hot enough.

but you kind of need to know what you’re doing. its not all that easy. probably better off having an optician do it for you…most places dont charge for adjustments, even if you didnt buy the glasses from them

I would recommend that you bring them to an optician. If you don’t know what you’re doing you may break them even more and end up having to get new ones.

Sounds like the frame is NOT broken, just bent. Repeatedly removing your glasses with only one hand will eventually bend the side-pieces (temples) outward. If they are not slightly pressing inward, toward your head, then they will never stay up, or will cause sore spots behind your ears.

Adjusting them correctly requires knowing where and where NOT to apply force after the frame is heated. As stated previously, this is a bit tricky, and you could burn yourself and ruin the hinge if you are not careful.

A lady knew that we heated frames to adjust them, so she tried it herself…….over a stove burner……a GAS stove burner. She had a ball of bubbled, blistered plastic that she wanted us to fix. Don’t be this lady! Let a pro adjust your frame.

I would take them to the optometrist for him or her to do this
they have special equipment. Don’t try to repair them yourself you may do more damage. I realize you want to repair them yourself, but some things should be done by a professional. If your glasses are bent it wont take the optometrist to repair them.

They just need to be realigned to fit your face properly again. I would not recommend trying this yourself at all…. well because it is very likely you could damage your frames with the hot water or bending them incorrectly. Bring your glasses into an optical and get them adjusted by someone who has the know how and the proper equipment :) good luck
