actually… yes, I do.
edit
the question was.. do I think it should be available ?
Not “but how would it be paid for”… which is clearly an issue/ problem that no one seems to have any answer for. And I agree it is an issue.
I am speaking from a moral standpoint, that I don’t believe anyone in this country should be without health care, simply as part of humanity.

It should be available. It isn’t now.

3

Because it is morally indefensible for it not to be.

Thyere can never be free heathcare

I have paid into medicare for 20+ years and will be paying for it another 20+ before I can use it

I have paid into Soc Security the same amount of time.

If I am lucky I will live to be the age needed to use it, that is, if it isnt solvent by then. If I dont live to that age the government just got money for nothing….

In utopia I guess it would be possible. Its like those free welfare checks… they are free arent they? Or is there actually someone paying for them?

we do have free clinics.

Free, no.

But, it does need to be affordable enough that any person can afford to pay for whatever healthcare he needs without having to resort to charity or risk going bankrupt to pay for it.

Health care doesn’t always have to be something someone else does.

Every individual should take care of his or her own health so as not to become sick. That is not free, because it means eating good quality food, getting exercise, avoiding toxins in the environment, etc. That kind of health care is a lot cheaper than the alternative, however.

People used to be much more capable of dealing with minor health issues in their families, but now people are unfortunately taught they should run to a doctor for every little thing. I think more independence needs to be encouraged and people need to be taught to live healthy lives. And the role of doctors should change to really be able to offer some useful assistance in keeping people healthy.

But forcing everybody to pay for health insurance would not help. Normal health care should be affordable enough for people to be able to pay for it without having an insurance company in the middle.

There needs to be some provision for catastrophic care, but insurance companies do a very poor job of covering that sort of risk. That’s where government has a role. Making sure people don’t needlessly die or go bankrupt in a disaster is the most important function of health insurance.
