Do you advise a second cataract eye operation?
By
Question: Just had one the right. The eye is brilliant, but now seems to be working against the other left eye, which was the dominant eye and now is not. Eye surgeon says need to even it up so the other eye is the same. With Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma (which is controlled) in both age 78 is this worth it do you think? Must admit the right eye now does not even need glasses, but the brain seems to be having a problem coming to terms with the fact that now the right eye is dominant, and the left eye is now the weakest, which also has a cataract. Do I pay the money and have the second done, or will my brain adjust to this change. Is this just a ploy to get another $2000 out of me. No insurance, on a pension. Wife says go for it, as the right eye is just so good. Answers please from anyone who has been down this track would be very much appreciated.

I would advice you to do the surgery because you could start having bad headaches. Especially if you can afford to do so. What could end up happening is you right eye will go bad again because of the strain put on it

Too bad about the insurance. You can leave the other eye alone it won’t make any difference in the long run. It will not affect the brain. It will not affect the other eye. It is strictly a matter of convenience and comfort. Ask your surgeon this:
What are the consequences of leaving this cataract in place and what is the approximate risk of each bad consequence. If he can’t answer or is hedging – well you know.

Get your cataract surgery in India.Eye Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges all types of surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients as surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.
They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star .
My cousin got her cataract surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results.sHe is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company. She paid just 25% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. .hope this helps.I think she paid only 1000$ for the cataract of both eyes and the IOL surgery for which she was quoted 4500 $ in USA.
