Can Doctors who are specialized can give medicines like family doctors too?

Question: I am trying to say like for ex. A patient goes to a Pulmonologist for diabetes…but pulmonologist are specialized in asthma and allergies so can they prescribe the medicines like family doctors can?

No……..They should refer the case to a diabetologist or a physician.Super specialist should prescribe medicines of their specialty only……..

Yes, before a pulmonologist was a pulmonologist, he was an internist, and that knowledge doesn’t have to be traded in for new when he subspecializes. On the other hand, he’ll not generally want to, since he won’t be the one primarily responsible for continued management of the diabetes.

Yes. They can prescribe legally any indicated medicine. Now whether they will is a different story. In an emergency, if you run out of a needed medication, they might prescribe a medication unrelated to their specialty. They don’t like to, and usually refer you to a physician better suited to that need.
