Are 1/2 truths a good way to sell health care reform?
By Editor
Question: Obama, Aug. 15: “if you like your health care plan, you keep your health care plan. Nobody is going to force you to leave your health care plan.”
HR3200 –
If you are “Grandfathered in” you can keep your insurance:
Sec 102
“c) Limitation on Individual Health Insurance Coverage-
26
(1) IN GENERAL- Individual health insurance coverage that is not grandfathered health insurance coverage under subsection (a) may only be offered on or after the first day of Y1 as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan.”
EXCEPT:
”
(1) GRACE PERIOD-
12
(A) IN GENERAL- The Commissioner shall establish a grace period whereby, for plan years beginning after the end of the 5-year period beginning with Y1, an employment-based health plan in operation as of the day before the first day of Y1 must meet the same requirements as apply to a qualified health benefits plan under section 101, including the essential benefit package requirement under section 121.”
EXCEPT:
“2) LIMITATION ON CHANGES IN TERMS OR CONDITIONS- Subject to paragraph (3) and except as required by law, the issuer does not change any of its terms or conditions, including benefits and cost-sharing, from those in effect as of the day before the first day of Y1.”
SO I can keep it IF:
- it mirrors every single standard in this bill AND
- IF It doesnt change in any way. AND
Who hasn’t had their plan change at least a little? Does this sound like an honest statement to you? Or is it more of a 1/2 truth?
When ppl see the president obviously misleading the public do you think it makes them mistrust him? If he cant tell the whole truth why should ppl not be extremely skeptical?

>There is no finalized bill. You are quoting a draft.
So why is the president telling me there is health care reform since there is no bill? Is that a lie then? Why is he quoting specifics about it when it doesnt exist?
Nice try tho.
>Ok what you fail to realize is that by requiring the insurance companies to mirror this bill’s standards it is forcing the insurance companies to give you AT LEAST that kind of coverage.
No I completely understand that and I also understand that when they did it in Mass that it made health care costs skyrocket. If I dont want a particular standard I should be able to choose to have it or not.
>Fair enough, but the government is in the business of setting minimum standards, for instance the amount of liability insurance you must have for a vehicle, the highest speed you can drive at, and now the minimum health coverage an insurance company must provide you with.
The reason they are doing it is so that someone cant come up with a cheaper alternative to the public plan. If you look at the bill you will see that everything they are doing is trying to get ppl on the public plan. They are doing that so they can get cheaper group rates. So they are stacking the deck in favor of their plan and speaking out the other side of their mouth saying this is designed to “promote competition”.

No…but apparently outright lies are good enough to stop it.

They work on dumb liberals. Can you believe a lot of them are still saying the 50 million uninsured thing?

These entire bills are just lies.

Half truth is the best 0bama has, and that may be an overstatement.
Don’t confuse the libs with facts… makes their tiny brains explode… Chanting Hope and Change are about all they can handle.

Ah d@mn! There you go injecting truth into the debate.
Watch the health reform proponents tells us that the bill doesn’t really mean what it says.

No, hence the reason Obama is having problems “selling” it.

Excellent job of explaining the problems. But I think most people who support it do not do so for any reasons that can be persuaded with reality. They either have been bought off, influenced by Labor Union Leaders or just think they will get something for nothing. Such people will never bother to read or comprehend your work.

Ok what you fail to realize is that by requiring the insurance companies to mirror this bill’s standards it is forcing the insurance companies to give you AT LEAST that kind of coverage.
So, if today you are covered for ten things and this bill covers you for twenty and you choose to keep your current insurance the insurance is now required by law to cover you for at least the twenty things the public option would cover you for.
It is forcing the insurance companies to give you more.
Why would you fight against that?!

A 1/2 truth is still a LIE! What else should we expect from a “community organizer” whose biggest claim to experience was he got people to vote.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:01 pm
A “half-truth” is a “half-lie” so that makes it a LIE!
Obama may claim we get to keep our current coverage but what if the employer changes the coverage since they can’t afford to keep the current one? OOPS! What if the current company can’t compete with the government and goes out of business? OOPS!
Why is the CBO saying it will increase the debt but Obama says he won’t raise taxes on those making under 250K but says they have to find a way to pay for this? DOUBLE OOPS!
And the trillion dollar question I haven’t had answered: How the hell are they going to cover an additional 47+ million people, no increase the medical providers and not decrease health care? Do the math! It doesn’t work! (Maybe it’s “fuzzy math.”)
